Working at the Royal Hotel in Slough

Children  from James Elliman Primary met and spoke to a Victorian maid who works at the Royal Hotel in Slough. She told them all about life in the Victorian times, about her work and showed them objects she uses in her everyday life.


Betty at Home in the 1930’s Kitchen

When St Bernard’s Prep visited the museum they were surprised to see someone in the museum’s 1930’s kitchen. It was Lizzie Monaghan as Betty, who told the children all about her life and what was happening in Slough during the War while washing her dishes and preparing her family’s meals!

Recycling Ryvers!

Jill Nichols ran a recycling workshop in Ryvers Primary for the topic of ‘Our Local Area’. The children used collected materials are created musical instruments.

Photography in the museum

Parlaunt Park visited the museum in February 2008 to see how we can use objects and photographs to learn about the past. During their visit Louise Keyworth and Filip Gierlinski led creative photography workshops on the theme.

Industrial Revolution in Slough

Slough Museum worked with all the Year 9 teachers at Langleywood Secondary School to develop and run a themed day in the school.
All of the work done helped to inform the Industrial Revolution Loan Box which was put together by the museum and Matt Latchford. See the loan box in on School’s website. 
This project was kindly funded by MLA Southeast.

'Creative Careers

Slough Museum participated in the Creative Partnerships Creative Careers event at East Berkshire College in October 2007. We had loan boxes on display, and students drew pictures of the objects which were added to ‘time balls’. The ‘time balls’ are now on display in the museum.

'WW2 character in school'

Lizzie Monaghan visited Cippenham Junior as her character ‘Betty’ who lives in Slough in the 1930s, during the War. The workshop gave children the opportunity to speak to someone from the past and to handle everyday objects from the 1930s.

Art @ the Centre

During 2008 Slough Museum is working with Art @ the Centre, offering in school workshops to partner schools on the topic of ‘public art’ and ‘public space’. The work created during the workshops in Castleview Primary and Colnbrook Primary went up in the Art @ the Centre exhibition in May.

Slough’s Past

In January 2008, Slough Museum worked with Castleview Primary and Creative Partnerships to deliver a whole school project on the topic of Slough.
Each year group looked at a different aspect of Slough, and the museum provided resources, loan objects and background material for each class.
As part of the project, the Year 4’s visited the museum to learn about Slough’s past, present and future.

Breaking the Silence

In March 2007 Slough Museum hosted the exhibition ‘Breaking the Silence – Aluta Continua’. Maureen Mazibuko came over with the exhibition, and brought it to life with her memories and stories. The exhibition was thought provoking and encouraged enlivened debate from all the students who visited.
The Loan Box ‘Breaking the Silence’ was developed from the exhibition. Brought to Slough Museum by: the Human Rights media centre, Khulumani Support Group, Creative Partnerships, St Bernard’s Convent
