William Herschel 1738-1822

William Herschel was a German Astronomer who lived and worked in Slough from 1782 until his death in 1822.

He is famous for his discovery of the planet Uranus and it is this discovery that encouraged King George III, who lived at Windsor, to appoint him the Kings Astronomer.
