Ellimans Embrocation was made from a combination of eggs, turpentine and vinegar. The method of production at the Chandos Street factory was quite dangerous compared to today's methods.

Eggs were imported by the million from Ireland, and then from China. The whole factory staff would be employed for 6 weeks as soon as the eggs arrived - just cracking them!

The other main ingredient - turpentine - had to be added with the Fire Brigade standing by.
