Elliman's
Money
The business made James Elliman Senior a very wealthy man. He used some of his wealth to donate to improving public amenities in Slough.
This included land and money for the Public Hall, the first Fire Station in Slough (in Mackenzie Street), a steam fire engine and the drill hall for the Slough Company of Volunteers.
In 1907 he gave 26 acres of land and £10,000 for the creation of the Salt Hill Playing Fields. You can see evidence of Elliman's contribution to Slough throughout the town today: Elliman Avenue was built in the 1920s and James Elliman School was built in the 1930s.
