The Elliman family moved to Slough in 1845 and by 1847 were selling their home-made embrocation to a Victorian public who couldn’t get enough. Eventually James Elliman opened a factory in Chandos Street to keep up with the demand for his marvellous medicine.

Elliman’s embrocation is a medical lotion that can be rubbed on to aching, tired muscles, it is still sold today all over the world but it originated in Slough in 1847.
