Slough Museum as a venue is an important meeting place for the
community. Of the 11,500+ people who use the Museum each year 50% of
these make a visit to the Museum which is situated at the eastern end
of Slough High Street. There are two exhibition galleries, a shop and
‘The Space’, which opened in November 2004 as place where
all ages can relax, meet friends and spend time learning about Slough.
Our visitors love the comfortable and friendly atmosphere of the Museum
and return time and time again to visit exhibitions, take part in
activities or research local history. |

Community involvement in the Museum’s exhibition
programme is a high priority. The Museum has two exhibition galleries:
‘A Journey Through Time’ tells the
story of the people, places and events in Slough from Prehistory to the
present day. The Modern Slough section of this gallery contains a
community area which is updated regularly to represent the different
groups and communities active in Slough today. ‘Slough – in
Focus’ provides a varied programme of in-house and community
exhibitions celebrating Slough’s past, present and future. |

Every Wednesday and Thursday in school holidays
and on special days throughout the year Slough Museum offers free
events for families led by our Creative Coordinator. Under the separate
branding of ‘hands on at Slough Museum’ we offer
opportunities for creative learning in a friendly environment which
amounts to a fun-packed afternoon for all the family. |

| Slough Museum’s service to
schools is growing each year. In 2004/5 the Museum led sessions
involving 1,648 school pupils and reached countless more through loans
of handling objects and activity packs for use in the classroom. The
Museum is increasingly under pressure to charge Schools in order to
continue these services. By supporting the Museum’s school’s programme your company will ensure that every School in Slough will receive a free voucher for a session led by the Museum. Your logo will appear on the voucher, the brochure sent out to Schools and on the Schools page of our website which is being extended this year to include a number of on-line resources.
